Sowing the Seed of God’s Word

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Last Sunday, in the sermon, you were encouraged to prepare for Lent by reading the Scriptures and deepening your faith. As we approach the season of Lent, I want to share some options for use in your devotional life.

- Portals of Prayer: Pick up at church in the rack near the guest book.

- Treasury of Daily Prayer: Found at CPH

- The Lutheran Service Book: See pastor for a copy

- For Us: Daily Devotions for Lent and Easter (CPH)

- Higher Things Daily Reflections

If none of these suggestions work for you, choose a Gospel, perhaps the Gospel of John, since he meditates the most on the Passion of our Lord, and read a chapter each day, or as much as you can handle daily. Once you finish the Gospel of John, move on to 1 Corinthians. The goal is to open our ears to hear God’s Word and not block it from entering our ears and reaching our hearts.

Or if you haven’t been, join us for us at Good Shepherd for Bible Class on Sunday after the Divine Service or on Thursday mornings at 10:00 A.M.

Blessings upon your season of Lent.

In the peace of God,
Pastor Rogness
