First Sunday in Lent
Learning to Confess our Sins
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
This Lenten season, we will use Wednesday evening services to meditate on Confession and Absolution. Over the years, and as we grow older, we often forget the significance of true confession and absolution, the practices that lead us as Christians to reconciliation.
We all learned about Confession and Absolution through our Confirmation Instruction, but honestly, once you became a teenager, you, like me, probably started growing lax about making an effort to reconcile with your neighbors, including actually saying the words, “I’m sorry” and “I forgive you.”
My hope is that during the season of Lent, we as a congregation rediscover the joy of Confession and Absolution, and understand how it promotes peace among brothers and sisters in Christ.
As I sign off this week, I leave you with this quote from Martin Luther as he highlights the importance of Confession and Absolution, he says,
“When I admonish you to go to confession, I do nothing else than to admonish you to be a Christian.” (Large Catechism)
God’s peace be with you,
Pastor Rogness
