Fifteenth Sunday after Trinity

Oktoberfest, Hymn of the Year, and Synod Opportunity

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This Sunday marks our annual Oktoberfest, offering a fantastic chance for food and fellowship. It’s a joyful occasion to watch the children giggle as they play and see adults chatting over good beer brats. 

While we await the brats to be cooked, we will have our normal opening of Bible Class, where we will sing the hymn of the year, “Built on the Rock.” The hymn of the year is new this year, but it is meant to provide us with focus as we sing, praise, and look to our Savior. This is what we should always desire and wish for the children of the congregation.

This leads me to a final comment. After our opening devotion, we will hold a brief listening session to gather input from the congregation on how Good Shepherd has taught the faith through hymns and liturgy in the past and in the present. This endeavor is part of a synod project we were encouraged to join, called “Sing, Pray, and Keep His Ways.” The aim of this project is to help congregations nurture and strengthen the faith of their children and to encourage active participation in the Divine Service.
