The Resurrection of Our Lord
Triduum at Good Shepherd
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The three days of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday are known as the Triduum (pronounced Trid-you-uhm). These days are considered one continuous service, starting on Maundy Thursday and concluding with the benediction at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday.
Since these three days form a single service, the bells will ring only at the start of the Maundy Thursday service and will not ring again until the end of the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday.
Another important part of the Triduum is entering and leaving the services in silence. This silence gives us time to pray and reflect on our Lord’s Passion. The hymns and prayers in this week’s bulletins are there to help guide your meditation as you find your place in the sanctuary.
You may also remember from previous years that I will not greet you before or after the services. It is not because I do not wish to, but because during these solemn days, our focus remains on our Lord’s Passion. This time apart should make us look forward even more to greeting each other and sharing in the joy of Easter!
|On Easter morning, when you enter the sanctuary, I invite you to sit in silence—not for the same reasons as Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, but so you can listen to the wonderful music our musicians have prepared to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ! We are so fortunate to have such talented musicians in our midst.
There will be wonderful opportunities for fellowship on Saturday evening following the Easter Vigil, at the Easter breakfast, and again during the Egg Hunt. Join us for as much as you are able!
The peace of God be with you,
Pastor Rogness
