Sixth Sunday after Trinity
Bright Valley of Love
Dear friends in Christ Jesus,
As we are in the thick of summer, are there any books you have meant to read but just haven’t gotten to yet? That was the case for me until I finally picked up “Bright Valley of Love” by Edna Hong.
I bought the book at the encouragement of one of my professors, Dr. Paul Grime (who rediscovered it and had it reprinted).
Friends, this book tells the story of a handicapped and neglected child living and growing up in Nazi Germany – a Germany that exterminated the lame and unloved. However, this book also tells the story of a community and church that showed unconditional love and compassion to the outcasts of society.
As we now live in the “Post-Roe” world, we must equally show such unwavering love to the mothers, fathers, and precious children in need – we must be a church of mercy and love, continuing to stand for all life.
If you want to read a fuller synopsis of the book or even the story behind how this book was recently rediscovered in the Concordia Theological Seminary Library, take a moment to read these links below.
Trust me; you’ll want to read this book!
